In 1912, the Corliss Family began hauling its rock product- one ton at a time- with a wooden wagon and a team of horses, serving the farmlands around the City of Sumner, Washington. In 1919, with the arrival of its first motorized dump truck- which doubled the payload of the horse drawn wagon, the Corliss Family’s market expanded throughout the Puyallup Valley while promoting the company’s quality rock products that now, as never before were screened into a variety of different sizes, and washed for better drainage characteristics. Expanding in 1945 to the Ready Mix Concrete business, included the addition of two 6-wheel driver trucks, each hauling 2 ½ yards of concrete.
